Frequently Asked Questions
🛥️ What should we bring on our trip?
Bring weather‑appropriate clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks, and drinks. Soft‑soled shoes are best on deck. We provide all fishing gear, bait, tackle, and safety equipment.
🎣 Do we need any fishing experience
Not at all. Our trips are designed for everyone—from first‑timers to seasoned anglers. Capt. Peter and First Mate John will coach you through everything you need to know.
🕒 When should we arrive?
Please arrive 10–15 minutes before departure so we can get you checked in, settled, and ready to go.
🦞 Can kids come on the boat?
Absolutely. We’re a family‑friendly operation, and kids love our short trips and lobster crawls. We have life jackets for all ages.
🐟 Can we keep the fish we catch?
Yes—within Massachusetts state regulations. We’ll fillet and bag your catch at the dock so it’s ready for the grill.
🌊 What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first. If conditions aren’t safe, we’ll reschedule your trip or issue a refund. Light rain doesn’t stop us, but heavy wind or rough seas might.
💵 How does payment work?
Deposits are due at the time of booking to secure your date. The remaining balance is paid on the day of your trip. Gratuity for the crew is part of every charter and helps support the hard work that goes into making your experience safe, fun, and successful.
🚫 What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations made more than 72 hours before your trip can be refunded or rescheduled to another available date. Cancellations made within 72 hours, same‑day cancellations, or no‑shows may result in forfeiting the trip. If we need to cancel due to weather or unsafe conditions, your trip is fully refundable or can be moved to a new date—your choice.
🍺 Can we bring alcohol?
Beer and seltzers are allowed in moderation. No hard liquor. Safety is our top priority.
🐋 Will we see wildlife?
Often! Seals, seabirds, bait balls, and sometimes even whales or porpoises show up. Nature does its own thing, but the North Shore is full of surprises.
Do i need a fishing license?
You do not need to purchase a fishing license for any trip with Hooked On Tail. All of our charters are fully covered under the boat’s state‑required licenses and commercial permits, which means every guest on board is legally cleared to fish for the species we target.
